Sleep

The power of sleep

Better quality sleep reduces arthritic pain

The pain of arthritis can make it tough to get a good night’s sleep. Tossing and turning at night can increase the perception of pain, negatively affect weight and our immune system. Good sleep improves our waking life. Period. It elevates mood, reduces pain, and lowers stress. Good sleep strengthens our memory, helps concentration, clear thinking and decision making. When we improve the quality of our sleep we reduce our day-to-day pain. This week let’s start our own personal SLEEP STUDY using the exercise below to assess where our sleep is at.

Sweeten your sleep

Once we’ve assessed our sleep, let’s begin to SWEETEN OUR SLEEP using the exercise below and increase the quality of our sleep throughout the program. In a sleep study, volunteers with osteoarthritis who took steps to enhance sleep reported significantly better sleep and less pain. They were still experiencing the benefits a year after the program ended. Common key triggers for poor sleep include pain, stress and inactivity—all themes that the Brilliant plan addresses and develops throughout the program.
